Splunk Sponsors 2012 National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwire) — 04/20/12 — Splunk Inc. (NASDAQ: SPLK), the leading provider of software for real-time operational intelligence, is helping to train the next generation of information security professionals. Splunk is sponsoring the 2012 National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC), which provides practical experience in managing and protecting commercial network infrastructures for higher education students. As part of the competition, students must use approved software, which includes Splunk, on their systems to fight cyber threats in a real-life scenario.

“Organizations need talented professionals to conquer the increasingly sophisticated cyber challenges of today,” said Rob Reed, Splunk-s worldwide education evangelist. “We-re proud to be a part of a learning experience that will help our nation-s eager cyber-security students master their craft while still in school so they can use these skills in real operational environments when they graduate.”

The conference is scheduled for April 20 – 22, 2012 at the St. Anthony Hotel, 300 East Travel St., in San Antonio, Texas. Splunk employees have volunteered to serve on a team that will simulate real users on students- commercial networks. Employees will alert them when their services go down to help them appropriately address the hypothetical external threats at hand. Additionally, Joshua Hritz, Splunk-s public sector business development manager, will speak on Sunday, April 22 to address how Splunk can be used to centralize and search data for better cyber-security monitoring.
