New, unique licensing solution from Wibu-Systems at CeBIT 2009

When developing software products, a company will often consider the need for a secure protection system and comprehensive licensing strategy. For meeting these and other developer needs, the German company, Wibu-Systems AG, will demonstrate its new license management solutions during CeBIT next month. The newly improved CodeMeter System provides very flexible protection utilizing both a hardware dongle called a CodeMeter Stick and with license activation called CodeMeterAct. As one of the leading manufacturers of licensing and software protection Wibu-Systems will give advice and answer visitor questions during CeBIT 2009, in the security hall 11 in booth B41.

After implementing the protection, the software vendor will be able to deliver the protected software to its customers; protected with the hardware CodeMeter Stick or with the license activation bound to a certain PC. Both solutions will run, platform independent, on Windows, Linux and Mac OS – for single-user and network solutions. The software vendor is able to map any license model, and use the appropriate solution depending on product, customer target group, or country. In all cases the vendor can use two unique tools: AxProtector, for protection without source code modification, and IxProtector, for an easy but secure integration in the source code that at the same time really encrypts program code segments.

Oliver Winzenried, CEO and founder of Wibu-Systems AG explained: “Every software vendor can now benefit from using our new protection scheme: companies with high security requirements as well as large-scale enterprises or producers of low-cost software like games or educational software will benefit from incorporating revenue enhancing license management models. The protected software will run with either a hardware key or a software key – or even a combination of both. A new and profitable feature for the user is the so called ‘License Borrowing’. This means that the user can borrow a license from a pool of company licenses which will allow the protected software to run for a certain time, outside the company network on his laptop.”

These new features in the CodeMeter system as well as the overall product capability should be investigated by companies looking to increase profits in these times of shrinking markets. Existing customers could be “mined” for licenses in use but not paid for. Companies can also use this basic technology to protect intellectual property from those who would tamper with their code or documentation.
