GET to Deliver a New Connected Entertainment Experience for Subscribers With Cisco Videoscape Unity

LONDON — (Marketwire) — 03/05/13 — (NASDAQ: CSCO) today announced that , a leading cable operator in Norway, has selected the video services delivery platform to transform its TV service and enable the deployment of next-generation entertainment experiences, including personalized and synchronized TV across multiple devices.

The new video service from GET will enable flexible TV viewing in the home and on the go, with unified broadband and TV experiences. Upon the launch of the new service, subscribers will be able to view content on multiple screens, with access to an extensive lineup of linear channels — complemented by on-demand content and digital video recorder (DVR) functionality.

GETs commitment to providing a future-ready video and entertainment experience, enabled by a suite of solutions from Cisco, lays the foundations for new functionality and services as the platform evolves.

Cisco Videoscape Unity will provide GET with a unified infrastructure for the management of video content and applications delivered over cable, IP and over-the-top (OTT) to multiple devices.

Once in the home, content will be centrally managed through a connected video gateway. Utilizing the offering, the gateway device will be powered by Cisco Videoscape MediaHighway middleware for both set-top box and gateway functionality, utilizing Cisco Prime remote management technology to manage and enable remote diagnostics of connected devices within the home.

Whilst subscribers are on the go, offering will enable access to linear content and services on connected media-ready devices.

Cisco Videoscape VideoGuard Conditional Access (CA) and Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology will secure the GET platform on devices both inside and out of the home, including set-top boxes and connected media-ready devices like the iPad.

As a roadmapped deployment, the Cisco Videoscape Snowflake user interface will provide a unified look and feel across devices, with intuitive navigation that provides streamlined access to content and services and addresses the capabilities of each device.

Providing a future-proof framework, Videoscape Unity enables the addition of new functionality and services, including cloud-powered features such as and interactive, synchronized and social experiences that utilize Web-based technologies.

As an existing customer of both Cisco and NDS (acquired by Cisco in 2012), GET-s deployment of Videoscape Unity reinforces the vision for the portfolio, combining the strengths of both companies for the benefit of its service provider customers.

“We want to deliver our customers access to entertainment and information services at the touch of a button, seamless across any device. Through the project with Cisco we will fulfill this vision and provide GET customers with the most rich information and entertainment in the easiest and most convenient way.” He added, “We will again change the way people consume digital entertainment.”

“We are experiencing a wave of innovation in European cable. The industry is going through a transition which is largely catalyzed by the exponential growth in connected devices and OTT services.” He added, “The Cisco Videoscape Unity platform uniquely addresses the changing needs of our pay-TV customers now and into the future. GET is a leading and collaborative partner, and we are proud to support them as they lay the foundations for their next-generation TV experience.”
