Queensland Premier Opens Door to New Casino Complex in Brisbane, Reports Gaming Club

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — (Marketwire) — 03/06/13 — has announced that the Australian city of Brisbane could be set for a second casino. Recently-elected Queensland Premier Campbell Newman has suggested that he will allow a new casino to be built on the site of the soon-to-be-demolished Executive Building and Public Works Buildings in Brisbane.

The aim of the proposal is to help to revitalize a run-down area of Brisbane, where the aforementioned buildings are situated. The site will be made available for the building of a new casino and/or five star hotel complex, which could prove to be Brisbane-s answer to Crown Limited-s casino, hotel and entertainment complex in Melbourne.

It is believed that the frontrunners for the project are Echo Entertainment Group, the owners of Brisbane-s only casino Treasury. Echo had a proposal for a 36 storey riverside casino knocked back by the government, amid fears that treasury revenues might drop if two casinos were situated too close together.

Mr Newman has reportedly met with Crown chairman and major Echo shareholder James Packer to discuss the proposals. Packer is currently in the process of selling off his majority stake in Crown in order to allow him to buy a bigger stake in Echo. He also intends to build a new casino and six star hotel complex at Barangaroo, on Sydney-s waterfront, and this will require Echo-s casino license.

A new casino would create jobs and increase tourism in an area of Brisbane that is deemed in need of a financial shot in the arm. The global economic downturn has led regional governments across the world to look towards casino projects as a means of injecting extra money into the economy. Perhaps the highest-profile case in recent times has been the long battle between Madrid and Barcelona for a new money-spinning Las Vegas Sands casino complex, which was eventually won by Madrid.

The expansion of casino resorts around the world has been mirrored by the explosive rise of online casinos such as Gaming Club, which have benefited from the increased availability of the internet across a range of devices such as tablets, smartphones, and laptop computers.
