Spreecast-s Social Video Platform Is Going Mobile

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 04/25/13 — Spreecast (), the social video platform that connects people through face to face conversation, today announced the anticipated launch of its free iPhone app and the ability for mobile audiences to access Spreecasts in the browser from any iOS or Android device.

The company, which launched publicly in November 2011, enables its users to create interactive face-to-face video broadcasts where users from across the globe can discuss current events, meet people with common interests, or engage with their favorite personalities. Spreecasts are recorded for immediate playback and can be shared across social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter.

Major media companies, including Viacom, Disney, The Wall Street Journal and the Los Angeles Times already utilize Spreecast to create live video content and engage with their audiences on topics ranging from current events and politics to sports and entertainment. “Our viewers are increasingly mobile and we know that they like to engage with our content from mobile devices,” said Gina Bartoli, Social Media Manager for ExtraTV, a division of Warner Brothers. “We-re very excited that our fans will be able to join our Spreecasts even when they are on the go.”

This first version of the iPhone app allows users to watch live or archived Spreecasts and to participate by using text-based chat, asking questions, and sharing on Facebook and Twitter. The company is already working on a future release that will enable mobile users to join the live conversation using the iPhone-s built-in camera. The company also expects to release both Android and tablet apps in the future.

“Mobile accessibility is a critical part of our long-term strategy,” said Jeff Fluhr, co-founder and CEO of Spreecast. “We-re very excited about this announcement because it represents a significant step forward on our path to connecting people through conversation.”
