Infinity Augmented Reality CIO Helen Papagiannis, Named “The NEXT 100 Top Influencers of the Digital Industry in 2013” by Next Berlin

NEW YORK, NY — (Marketwired) — 06/10/13 — Infinity Augmented Reality, Inc. (“Infinity Augmented Reality” or “Infinity AR”) (OTCQB: ALSO) — Infinity AR, the pioneering developers of proprietary augmented reality software, announced today that its Chief Innovation Officer, Helen Papagiannis, was named one of The NEXT 100 Top Influencers of the Digital Industry in 2013 by the organizers of Next Berlin, a European digital conference that was held on April 23-24. “This honor further reinforces our belief that Helen Papagiannis is truly the best and the brightest in the field of Augmented Reality, and she will certainly influence our company-s future products and services,” said Enon Landenberg, the newly appointed CEO of Infinity AR. The selection of the NEXT 100 list is made by an — investors, entrepreneurs, media representatives and executives from different industries — along with a public nomination and vote.

Although the event took place about six weeks ago, CEO Landenberg learned of this honor when he met the Company-s team and discussed their recent projects and accomplishments. “I want to highlight this honor, of which I was not previously aware,” Landenberg said, who added that “it certainly demonstrates that our team has some of the best-in-industry knowledge as we develop plans for our next phase of growth.”

Ms. Papagiannis is a designer, consultant and researcher who has made important contributions to the Augmented Reality (AR) sector for almost a decade. She describes the role of Chief Innovation Officer “as taking the efforts of Infinity Augmented Reality to the next level. With Infinity AR-s unique platform and recognition technology, the potential for commercial applications are endless.” Upon joining Infinity AR in early March, Ms. Papagiannis stated she believes that the company is one of the only pure AR plays in the public domain working on a full AR platform. “I am very impressed with the team-s commitment to innovation in AR, and creating an outstanding consumer product,” Ms. Papagiannis said.

Who are the most important people shaping Europe-s digital future chosen to be The NEXT 100 Top Influencers? Ms. Papagiannis was ranked 16 out of 100 and is part of a distinguished list that includes digital luminaries such as Jan Beckers, Founder & CEO HitFox Group; Dominik Matyka, CEO and Co-Founder of Plista; and Jeff Jarvis, a blogger, author and associate professor.

NEXT Berlin is an annual conference and intellectual salon for the European digital industry, which brings together marketing decision-makers and business developers with technical experts and creative minds. Earlier this year, the organizers conducted a search for the European digital industry-s top influencers. In February, the public nomination and voting process concluded; then the submitted its votes. The accumulation of both vote tallies resulted in the official NEXT 100 list. All 100 were invited to the conference.

To describe her vision for AR-s future, Ms. Papagiannis explained that “AR will enable people to experience events and places in real-time that they may not otherwise have access to.” To describe the commercial possibilities for AR technology, Ms. Papagiannis cited a few examples including how it will enable people to participate in live concerts, sporting events or visit far-flung destinations “all from the comfort of one-s living room home through AR” with devices such as Glass, Google-s new AR eyewear. Ms. Papagiannis described how AR technology is merely the next step of technology that began with the Victorian era-s stereoscope, a special viewing device that introduced “traveling” to distant lands from one-s home by looking at 3D photographs. Then film and television extended this sensation of being transported to other worlds through the moving picture and live telecasts viewed on dedicated screens. Now AR can bring the world to consumers anywhere and anytime, appearing in each person-s space and reality as a highly personalized experience.

Ms. Papagiannis has presented her interactive work and research at global juried conferences and invited events including TEDx (Technology, Entertainment, Design), ISMAR (International Society for Mixed and Augmented Reality) and ISEA (International Symposium for Electronic Art). Helen-s TEDx 2011 talk was featured among the Top 10 Talks on Augmented Reality and Gamified Life. Prior to her augmented life, she was a member of the internationally renowned Bruce Mau Design studio where she led the project, “Massive Change: The Future of Global Design,” an internationally touring exhibition and best-selling book examining the new inventions, technologies and events transforming the world.

Ms. Papagiannis has dedicated her professional life and academic career to mastering this marketplace. She recently explained that she is excited about the prospects for AR, which has been described by analysts as the next $100 billion high-tech industry — following in the ascension of development from the Internet to mobile phones. “Author and mobile expert has compared the future growth and adoption of the AR industry as a mass medium to that of the mobile industry, and predicts that there will be 1 billion users of AR by the year 2020,” she explained. Ms. Papagiannis earned a B.A with Honors in Art History and Fine Arts from University of Toronto and a Master-s in Communication and Culture from Ryerson University, which have culminated in her specialty in Augmented Reality. She has earned an educational foundation that has reached the pinnacle of academia for this specialized discipline, and is a doctoral degree candidate at York University.

Augmented reality is a medium in which real sensory inputs are enhanced, or augmented, with relevant digital information from the Internet. Using specially equipped eyewear, virtual images, video, and sound are superimposed for the user over what is actually seen and heard, heightening the real-life experience with additional information that is pertinent, informative, practical and entertaining. The individual user may also be fully immersed in a virtual world, temporarily blocking out real surroundings. With augmented reality, sensory inputs are no longer limited to what is within eyeshot or earshot, but may incorporate, in real-time, all that the network has to offer.
Augmented reality requires an interface, such as digitally-enhanced eyewear, that can instantaneously overlay virtual images and video on top of what is actually experienced. Companies like Google and Lumus are in the process of developing augmented reality glasses that will change the way users see and interact with the world. Infinity AR will utilize its augmented reality applications through these glasses and through other mobile devices including smart phones. As the individual changes his or her visual perspective the sights that are overlaid change accordingly. The eyewear incorporates audio speakers that add virtual sounds to the experience, as well as microphones that capture and interpret the user-s spoken commands through speech recognition technology in order to summon desired information and actions.
