GenieDB Launches Globally Distributed MySQL-as-a-Service

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — (Marketwired) — 08/05/13 — , a leading innovator of distributed relational database technology, today announced the launch of GenieDB Globally Distributed MySQL-as-a-Service, its scalable, highly available database-as-a-service (DBaaS). Organizations of any size can now take advantage of GenieDB-s automated platform to build web-scale applications that gain the benefits of geographical database distribution (geo-distribution): continuous availability during regional outages (datacenter or cloud failure, natural disaster, etc.) and better application response time for globally distributed users.

Today-s online applications serve an increasingly distributed, mobile user-base that demands fast access from anywhere in the world, at any time of day. Cloud has become the new standard for application deployment, but is subject to network connectivity issues, latency, and periodic outages due to maintenance windows and/or failures. GenieDB-s innovative technology transforms the database layer to overcome the challenges of availability and latency inherent in cloud-based applications. Since GenieDB is native MySQL, organizations can gain the advantages of global database distribution without having to acquire new database expertise or new resources. GenieDB-s Globally Distributed MySQL-as-a-Service is ideal for new or existing applications that are expecting increasing traffic such that database management demands will soon exceed existing resources, expertise, or both. GenieDB frees developers from the challenge of managing distributed databases so that they can focus attention where it matters most: rapid application development. The technology is available in an on-premise version, and now available as a DBaaS version.

“GenieDB gives us a platform that is distributed, highly available and able to provide fast response times to our subscribers located all over the world,” said Vince Vasquez, CEO, CloudBook. “Having it as DBaaS is huge for us — it allows us to focus our development resources in portions of application development where we have core competences, while allowing GenieDB to handle the distributed database — an expertise, quite frankly we don-t have in house. GenieDB saved us at least six months time to market, if not more, and most importantly the service really works.”

“Unlike many other database solutions, GenieDB enables developers to meet the challenges of cloud environments without having to give up critical database capabilities or abandoning investments in existing database infrastructure,” said Cary Breese, CEO, GenieDB. “The technology provides an easy-to-use platform that overcomes the difficulties of managing a fully distributed database in the cloud, while allowing organizations to continue to use native MySQL.”

GenieDB DBaaS is available now via , , and . The GenieDB DBaaS launch is the latest in a string of recent successes for the company, including being named to the DBTA 100, a list of companies “that matter most in data” as well as signing new customers such as CloudBook and gaming developer PhykenMedia. GenieDB, Inc. provides the first database technology that enables enterprises to globally scale their existing MySQL applications without incurring the costs and pain associated with abandoning traditional database architecture. By dramatically simplifying the migration of enterprises into cloud-based infrastructures, GenieDB brings global scalability to the mainstream. GenieDB-s innovative and patent-pending approach automates and optimizes how data is processed across global networks and clouds, providing readily accessible, local database performance on a global scale.
