Parchment and GED Testing Service Launch Strategic Partnership to Improve the Value of GED Test Scores for Colleges and Employers

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — (Marketwired) — 09/17/13 — Beginning January 2, Parchment and GED Testing Service will offer states and test takers a new service to ensure colleges, employers and the military have more valuable information about each GED graduate-s skills and knowledge. Once test takers have passed the GED test, they will receive a diploma awarded by their state and a Smart Transcript, both delivered in a secure electronic format, free of charge.

“This partnership is an important element of the comprehensive GED Program, designed to help adults move more quickly into college and career training programs — or right into better jobs,” said Nick Laul, vice president at GED Testing Service. “The state-of-the-art tools developed by Parchment will ensure that the GED transcript remains valid and secure, so that employers and colleges can rely on its authenticity.”

Smart Transcripts show what an individual GED test taker accomplishes when they pass the GED test. The Smart Transcript will have links embedded that will tell potential employers and colleges what is measured on the GED test, and how the test taker performed on each. The new GED test will measure test-takers on over 150 different traits. This will be a valuable tool in helping GED test credential earners demonstrate skills that employers need. The Smart Transcript will also provide detailed information about what each GED Test score means and how the test taker performed compared to high school seniors nationwide.

“We are excited that Parchment-s solutions will help take GED credentials online, and the new transcript will make score results more meaningful for employers and admissions staff,” said Parchment CEO Matthew Pittinsky. “Parchment will play an important role in the safekeeping and delivery of GED credentials, and will help test takers access more opportunities and put their credential to work more quickly.”

Additionally, GED Testing Service will assume the historical record management for past GED test transcripts and diplomas. For a small administrative fee, past test takers will be able to use Parchment to get copies of their GED transcript for use in college admission or employer verification.

Parchment will also power the credentials portion of the GED program offering, which includes fulfillment of state diplomas, transcripts and letters of certification, all of which will be available in either paper or electronic format. In addition, Parchment will offer a site for reordering credentials, as well as allowing past test takers to get credentials.

Parchment is the leader in education credentials technology, allowing learners, educators and employers to collect, analyze, use and share credentials in simple and secure ways. More than 3 million people and 7,700 schools and universities have used Parchment to exchange nearly 10 million transcripts. Founded in 2003, Parchment Inc. is headquartered in Scottsdale, AZ, with offices in Roseville, CA, Denver, CO, Grand Rapids, MI and Washington, DC.

The GED test has opened doors to better jobs and college programs for more than 18 million graduates since 1942. Last year nearly 800,000 adults sat for the GED test, which is accepted by virtually all U.S. colleges and employers.
