VANCOUVER, BC — (Marketwired) — 12/03/13 — Today, (DPT) announced that the University of British Columbia (UBC) has implemented License Plate-Enabled Parking, which uses 44 LUKE II multi-space parking pay stations operating in Pay-by-License Plate (PBL) mode and the company-s cloud-based Enterprise Management System (EMS). This new parking system provides consumers with a more convenient and consistent parking experience, and will streamline the university-s parking management operations.

The new parking system features full integration with enforcement technology partners Genetec and T2 Systems, as well as PayByPhone. Genetec provides its vehicle-mounted AutoVu mobile License Plate Recognition (LPR) system, and T2 Systems is providing handheld devices for LPR enforcement. Transitioning to License Plate-Enabled Parking enables the university save money by making enforcement operations more efficient and productive. Also, using license plates to identify vehicles means that costs associated with marking spaces and numbering can be eliminated which can result in a 10 percent increase in parking inventory as more vehicles of various sizes can fit on a single block.
DPT-s cloud-based Enterprise Management System (EMS) enables easy management and configuration of the pay stations, streamlining of maintenance and collections processes, and the ability to remotely change pricing based on supply and demand.

In addition to streamlining operations, the upgrade will provide consumers with a more convenient parking experience, with the goal of offering this solution campus-wide. The new pay stations accept multiple payment options, a feature that was lacking on the previous single-space meters. Consumers will now be able to pay with coins, credit card or by phone, and can add time to their session from any pay station on campus without having to return to their vehicle.
In the future, the university plans to explore permit parking via LPR, whereby the license plate itself would become the vehicles- permit, enabling consumers to park in various locations across campus.
