Corning Earns Individual Achievement Award and Technological Innovation Recognition

CORNING, N.Y. – Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) today announced it was twice recognised at the recent Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) gala dinner in London, U.K.

Dr. Merrion Edwards, director, Market and Technology Development, Corning Optical Communications, won the “2016 David Hall Award for Best Presentation” for her lecture titled “Smaller Cables: Bigger Possibilities” in which she showed how smaller cable form factors can simplify networks and increase capacity robustness. This individual award recognises exceptional achievement in the broadband industry.

“I’m proud of Corning’s leadership and of our innovative solutions for faster, revenue-generating infrastructure deployments,” Edwards said. “It is an honour to hear not only from our customers but from the SCTE that our work is having a significant impact in the industry.”

Named as runner-up for the “Best Broadband Network Transmission Solution” award was Corning’s MiniXtend® cable with Binderless FastAccess Technology, a product introduced last year to enable fast, low-risk cable access. The award is given for technological innovation in the broadband arena for a product, system, or concept.

“We are helping our customers deploy optical fibre deeper into access networks, and the idea that you can open a cable jacket in the field without sharp tools was a game changer,” said Mark Van de Velde, U.K. and Ireland sales manager, Corning Optical Communications. “Having SCTE acknowledge this accomplishment is validating as we continue exploring new ways to reduce the complexity and increase the speed of deployment.”

“This has been a fantastic year for our awards, with an impressive selection of entries showing the scope of innovation in the industry,” said Mike Thornton, president of SCTE. “We would like to express our congratulations to all of the entrants and winners for their broadband technology advancements, which are sure to have a great impact on our industry.”

Submissions for the SCTE awards were open to the entire broadband industry.
