HPCC Systems(TM) From LexisNexis(R) Releases Source Code for Developers to Help Process and Deliver Big Data Analytics

NEW YORK, NY — (Marketwire) — 09/12/11 — HPCC Systems from LexisNexis® Risk Solutions is pleased to announce today that it has released the source code for its HPCC Systems platform to the open source community. Developers can now leverage and further enhance the platform. Available immediately for download, the source code can be found here: . The HPCC Systems platform helps customers solve Big Data analytics problems.

“We are very pleased to release our source code as promised to the open source community,” said Armando Escalante, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of LexisNexis Risk Solutions and head of HPCC Systems. “We strongly believe that everyone will capitalize and benefit from the innovation that the community will create now that the source code is available. The community needs full and immediate access to established, proven technology for Big Data analytics processing. We feel strongly that HPCC Systems is the most effective solution in the marketplace for Big Data.”

“We are training our staff on the platform for several upcoming projects that require Big Data processing,” said Margaret Loper, GTRI Information and Communications Lab Chief Scientist. “The platform fits well with the research we are doing internally and for our diverse base of research customers.”

Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is a part of the Georgia Institute of Technology, which is one of the nation-s top research universities, distinguished by its commitment to improving the human condition through advanced science and technology. Georgia Tech Research Institute-s science and engineering expertise is used to solve some of the toughest problems facing, government and industry across the nation and around the globe.

“We-ve found ECL to be ideal for the informatics challenge of sorting through petabytes of data to find correlations and generate hypotheses. Our tests show that ECL and HPCC Systems is a strong platform for helping us address these challenges,” said Dr. Richard Murphy, Sandia National Laboratories.

Sandia National Laboratories, a Federally Funded Research and Development Corporation (FFRDC) within the National Nuclear Security Agency, considers the programming language ECL a significant leap forward in declarative programming methods for managing extreme scale data challenges. Scientists and developers from Sandia have worked with LexisNexis and the ECL for several years on various development projects.

HPCC Systems released the binaries of HPCC Systems on different distributions as promised in June. HPCC Systems- Community Edition runs on Linux-based operating systems including Redhat, CentOS, Suse, Debian and Ubuntu.

To manage, sort, link, join and analyze billions of records within seconds, LexisNexis developed a data intensive supercomputer that has been proven, and has evolved for over a decade, with customers who need to process large volumes of data. Built on a high performing computer clustering technology, HPCC Systems is an enterprise-proven, open source solution to help large organizations process and deliver Big Data.

HPCC Systems is comprised of a single architecture, a consistent data-centric programming language called ECL, and two processing platforms: the Thor Data Refinery Cluster and the Roxie Rapid Data Delivery Cluster. The core of the technology platform is the Enterprise Control Language (ECL), which is a declarative, data-centric programming language optimized for large-scale data management and query processing. The Thor Data Refinery Cluster is responsible for ingesting vast amounts of data, transforming, linking and indexing that data, with parallel processing power spread across the nodes. The Roxie Rapid Data Delivery Cluster provides highly scalable, high-performance online query processing and data warehouse capabilities.

HPCC Systems from LexisNexis® Risk Solutions offers a proven, data-intensive supercomputing platform designed for the enterprise to process and deliver Big Data analytical problems. As an alternative to Hadoop and mainframes, HPCC Systems offers a consistent data-centric programming language, two processing platforms and a single architecture for efficient processing. Customers, such as financial institutions, insurance carriers, insurance companies, law enforcement agencies, federal government and other enterprise-class organizations leverage the HPCC Systems technology through LexisNexis® products and services.
