Arup Adopts Knovel for Global Engineering Teams

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — (Marketwire) — 04/24/12 — The global engineering, planning and design consultancy, Arup, has adopted Knovel to provide web-based technical references for its engineering teams worldwide. Using Knovel, engineers working on a diverse range of complex projects will have access to the same validated content, saving time, effort and ensuring consistent answers to technical questions.

A world leader in the Engineering Design and Construction sector, Arup is the creative force at the heart of many of the world-s most prominent projects in the built environment and across industry. Julian Dawson, Senior Librarian & Information Systems Manager, based at Arup-s London, UK, headquarters, commented,

“Knovel represents a significant step in our online provision. We were missing an online resource that had both engineering and specific technical information rather than just being limited to regulatory guidance and standards. Arup has a strong information sharing ethos, and knowledge tools like Knovel are fundamental in underpinning our knowledge and skills networks.”

“By using Knovel, we expect to gain savings in time and productivity from the speed at which people can access the information they require from their desktop and by being able to drill down to the exact content of a publication.”

Knovel works with a network of more than 90 recognised societies and publishing partners to provide validated technical references and data across 28 subject areas.

Feedback from early adopters has been overwhelmingly positive. Highlighting the range of content available from authoritative sources, one user noted that Knovel helps “with the diverse master planning work where numerous design solutions for a multitude of challenges have to be evaluated.” Another user commented: “It provides a first point of reference for technical material and the opportunity to see how different authors tackle a given subject.” Another stated simply, “You have got a Goldmine here.”

Gary Kearns, Knovel-s EMEA Managing Director said, “Engineers working in the Engineering Design and Construction market must ramp up on topics quickly as they take on new projects and face aggressive timelines. When engineers seek answers to technical questions, they need convenient access to consistent and credible information. Knovel meets the multi-disciplinary information requirements of Arup-s global project teams and offers time and cost savings that are valued in today-s competitive market”.
